The Minister of Internal Affairs of Seychelles welcomed Mr. Guillermo Antonio Lopez Mac Lellan, the Ambassador-Designate of the Kingdom of Spain to the Republic of Seychelles. The meeting highlighted Spain’s active role and engagement in maritime security initiatives, both independently and through multilateral frameworks such as the European Naval Force (EUNAVFOR) and the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF).
The resurgence of maritime piracy in the Western Indian Ocean Region underscores the necessity for joint security efforts, streamlined legal processes, and enhanced information sharing. Seychelles recognizes Spain's significant role in EUNAVFOR operations and commends its leadership in the chain of command.

The expansion of the EUNAVFOR mandate presents an opportunity to address other illicit maritime activities, including drug trafficking, illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and terrorism. Seychelles has pledged to collaborate with the EU to combat these threats to regional peace and stability. The meeting was also attended by the Director of the National Information Sharing Coordination Centre (NISCC) Captain Gerald Wong-Pool and Superintendent Jemmy Bouzin of the Seychelles Police.
